Batteries

Which batteries? now there is a question...tesla use hybrid cells you would usuually find in laptops..the budget guys go with lead acids...A123 which was my planned setup have ceased trading(i have their batteries in my dewalt power tools which have no equal!)
so im going with lipo4- (thats lithium iron phosphate for the unitiiated) from china aviation after watching Jack at EVTV do all the testing for me!
many thanks Jack you dont know how much help your site has been...
now to find a good supplier in the uk..

The inspiration...

This thing was made in a shed, stuck together with string and parcel tape and isnt very fast but its the machine that got me interested in the whole concept, made me sell my ICE bike and start saving for batteries!

Agni motor

Agni motors, simply the easiest way to build a good electric vehicle- this motor is going to provide my start point for the project- this is the motor developed by a chap called lych- a series wound, brushed  DC motor capable of spitting out around 100 horses!
This motor was in the bike that won the very first electric TT- can be bought in kit form or standalonse and will cuople great with the batteries im lining up to buy!
the big decider? its relatively cheap and there is a wealth of info and a ton of bikes out there already running this thing.
*I have afriend who builds narrowboats with solar panels and these things installed, they are turning up in cars ,bikes and have regen cpabilities into the bargain.
Im planning on getting a recon unit from these guys www.jozztek.com and a wealth of good info on their site too- im in the uk but htey are available worldwide...

TT gets its first electric 100mph lap!

electric bike builder MotoCzysz is looking forward to an exciting 2013 after Mr. Rutter won the TT zero.
The E1pc, powered by the MotoCzysz D1g1tal Dr1ve. Took 1st and 3rd in the SES TT Zero race with Michael Rutter and Mark Miller -it also managed to stomp the mountain course in a lap at an average speed of more than 100mph.

The American firm , which has also been awarded three big contracts to complete two new drive systems and build its fastest e1pc to date.
Founder and CEO Michael Czysz said:
“We are on an ideal trajectory for long term success, balancing growth with revenue. I am confident that our earned revenues for last year far outpaced our competitors.”
He explained MotoCzysz is banking on this measured growth to keep strong and healthy while the EV sector takes time to mature.
Mr Czysz added:
“In the end, revenue and sales matter. Through key partnerships and customers we are able to fund our innovation, products and growth.”
One of those products is the D9, a powerhouse (5,139 Nm /2,542 ft-lbs drive torque) integrated electric drive, designed for medium to heavy duty fleet vehicles. The D9 has already gone through extensive testing and the completion of the first order was delivered last month.
MotoCzysz has more projects in the pipeline and expects to innovate and continue to grow through the success of these products.
Mr Czysz concluded:
“We are just now starting to address products that are the real game changers, embedded with deep technology and innovation.”
“ Next year will be very exciting.”

The genius of Jack Rickard

Just a short post to point you in the direction of EVTV.com- Jack Rickard and his co-hosts are basically at the very leading edge oif electric vehicle design and i doubt no-one in the industry is better connected, educated and experienced as Jack is...every detail of electric vehicle construction and conversion is covered from battery management through to tyre rolling resistance- he will even build you one if you ask!
tune in and watch Jack try to get his his tesla delivered on time and blow up / sorry destruction test various battery techs.
the current big project is an electric escalade- why ? you may ask? probably just  because he can!

Zero motorcylces= zero power- some bikes recalled...

Not so good news on the electric bike front...Zero Motorcycles Inc. is recalling some S and DS bikes from this years 2012 range to rectify an electronic bug that can cause their electric motors to suddenly lose power and drive.
They filed paperwork with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Scotts Valley, Calif.,Zero bikes said "the affected vehicles have motor encoder position signals that may drift, or change over time."
Basically a problem with the motor controller safety circuits!
If the signal drifts outside of certain parameters, the motor controller may shut off, causing the motorcycle to lose power unexpectedly. A sudden loss of power can increase the risk of a crash.
Zero said the recall only affects some 315 motorcycles. The recall is  a danger but really only a small distraction for Zero, who are busy trying to attract motorcyclists to its unusual, and somewhat expensive battery-powered models.
Under the recall, dealers will reprogram the motorcycle’s motor controller free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin this month.Owners may contact Zero Motorcycles at 888-786-9376.

Electric Mercedes- not a bike but oh so pretty!
